On Wednesday 11 June, The Lord Chamberlains Men performed Twelfth Night in the garden of The Old Rectory.
The Lord Chamberlains men don't just perform. They build their stage, sort out their costumes, arrange their music and tour nationwide. Their performance in Charlbury was part of a schedule which started in May and continues to September, taking in almost 50 different venues
Actors, much like armies, march on their stomachs. We are extremely grateful to those who fed the The Lord Chamberlains Men with such generosity and style. Huge enthusiasm from all concerned and clean plates all round!
Surely it was never in doubt?! From the moment the first van arrived, to the final litter pick and chair removal, we were blessed with a gorgeous day, enabling the stage to be built in good time and the audience to enjoy a perfect summer evening.
We are so grateful to you, our audience, for supporting this first venture of outdoor Shakespeare in Charlbury. We would be so interested to hear your thoughts and opinions on the event - just drop us a line through this website via the form at the bottom of this page.
This was truly a team effort and we are indebted to the very very many people who made it happen. To our sponsors, our car parkers, our volunteers, our litter pickers, our treasurers, our venue - everyone pulled together and the result was so greatly appreciated.
Dedicated to St. Mary the Virgin, St Mary’s Church , Charlbury has been a place of welcome and spiritual refreshment for over 900 years. Visitors to the town, walkers on the Oxfordshire Way, local residents and others are all welcome here, not only to enjoy the building but to take time to reflect in the peace and stillness of this place, a peaceful hub in this hectic world.
For over a thousand years, All Saints Church - as part of the parish of St Mary’s, Charlbury - has played a small but important part in the spiritual life of the area. Remote and steeped in the rural community, it offers sanctuary to all comers, whether on horseback, foot or bicycle. Set on a quiet lane not far from Charlbury and quoted by Simon Jenkinson as one of England’s 'Thousand Best Churches’ the church is a rare gem due in the most part to its very ancient wall paintings depicting local heroes of the time.
We are beyond delighted with our fundraising total which will go directly to the work of both churches THANK YOU to everyone who supported us!
